I am an experienced counsellor, currently working in Occupational Health and in private practice. My original training was in Person Centred practice, but I may now use a more cognitive behavioural approach, depending on the issues clients bring to therapy. I qualified in 1990 when I received my Diploma, and completed my Masters degree in 1994. I have since worked in Primary Care for 22 years and currently work in a hospital Occupational Health Department (where I have worked for 12 years) and in private practice. Typically, clients may want to talk through difficulties they are experiencing – wanting to gain understanding of how and why these issues are impacting on them and wanting to acquire some coping strategies to help them live more healthily. However, if clients are just feeling that things are just “not right”, that they are “not themselves” , I would help them to explore their “not right-ness” in a person centred, non-directive way.
