I work with Trauma PTSD and with Autism Aspergers; via Skype or in my Brighton based therapy room. I first create a supportive ‘therapeutic relationship’. Three conditions are necessary to do this; Empathy: so you feel deeply understood; Congruence; so I am genuine in my relationship with you and Unconditional Positive Regard; that I do not judge whatever you bring to sessions. I work to create a therapeutic environment that enables clients to begin to heal.ÊMy practice is guided by Judith HermanÕs Ô3 Stages of trauma recoveryÕ. Stage 1 Safety and Stabilisation; to increase resources and teach psycho educational techniques to manage body felt symptoms of trauma or anxiety. I introduce ÔThe Window of ToleranceÕ model, to increase understanding of the meaning of symptoms and practice with clients, ways to respond when in distress. I help people develop confidence to feel safe and in control.ÊStage 2 is Trauma processing. Once you have the skills to manage your symptoms, we can move to phase two; processing what happened. This can include; reviewing or discussing the impact of the trauma to lessen the intense feelings and physical symptoms, consider the meaning of traumatic events on your life and identity and to process grief about unwanted or abusive experiences.ÊStage 3 or Moving on, is about reconnecting with people or animals, finding meaningful activities and consideration of other aspects of living eg. spirituality, education or other positive pursuits.ÊWalking Sessions. If you prefer to work in nature or ÔoutsideÕ the usual room based therapy environment, I am happy to discuss 50 minute walking sessions in the vicinity of my therapy room.
