Whatever brings clients to therapy, I aim to facilitate their own self awareness through the development of a trusting and supportive counselling relationship, and to assist them in becoming more self empowered and feeling more in control of their own lives. My main interest is in uncovering unconscious core beliefs which cause us unnecessary suffering and limit our growth, and working towards integrating new ways of being into our lives. With awareness, we can begin to free ourselves from our past conditioning and become more present in our everyday lives and connect at a deeper and more fulfilling way with ourselves, each other and the world around us. I work within an Integrative framework, although my background is Person Centred. Some people may be going through a crisis in their lives and may be looking for support to deal with a particular issue, or they may have ongoing recurrent problems in certain areas of their lives and need someone to really listen empathically and without judgment. They may be wanting to change certain habits or patterns of relating with others, or they may not have any specific problem but they may be wishing to work on their own self development. Whatever the reason for seeking counselling, I would offer an initial session in which I can assess my client’s needs and discuss how we can work together to help get those needs met, and if the client is happy to continue working with me then we will generally meet together once a week for either 6 to 12 weeks for short-term therapy or longer as required for more long-term work.
